Instead of letting people install nHancer and make them apply this fix, a real simple fix is even easier (and comes with more improvements):

Update your drivers! It's already fixed in the newer releases.

i just downloaded the newest version of ATI i dont got NVIDIA , i have ATI .. and its not helping. .

Tried your tutor with no help. I don't know if its meant for my drivers or system and got a few doubts because the topic is almost half year old and my pc is a bit different than the one studied but still thought this would be the right place to post.

My pc is running with XP, 8800 GT and 258.96 drivers.

been a long time..

wanted to reinstall sof2demo, first ran into some troubles cusz i hadn't deleted it completely (it did install after running a few regedit searches for sof2)..

ANYWAY:
i can't start the game, get the crash everyone here is talking about. (see my quote underneath my post)

wanted to run your fix, SAM, but the prob is i have an ATI card, not a nVid,

so.. does anyone have a fix for the stated error when it involves ATI videocards???

EDIT: forgot specs; windows 7, ati rad3800 series (yes i know, my old pc sucks, but it still works!!)

True, I cannot get it to work and I have a GeForce GTX 560.

You don't need to. It works fine in the newer releases of their drivers. If you crash on demo, try to rename your application to sof2mp.exe or quake3.exe..

Hi guys,

I got a question, maybe someone could help me. If I open sof it says: ''sof2mp.exe stopped working''. Now I've read in this topic that nHancer could solve this problem. But this program also doesnt work on my comp. Does anyone know another solution, instead of downloading an older driver, to fix this problem?

There is a nHancer alternative called nvidiaInspector i tried some things but it didnt work. Could some1 please take a look with nvidiaInspector and help us further. ty in advance

After 8 years, you keep torturing me with those questions. Newer nvidia drivers don't have this issue anymore. Now let me rest in piece.

Unfortunately newer Nvidia, AMD and Intel drivers do still have the issue where SoF2MP.exe crashes during startup ("SoF2MP.exe stopped working").

You can fix that with a patched binary, we host updated binaries here: http://1fxmod.org/clpatch/

Scroll down to "Download patched client executables" and download the patched binaries for your SoF2 version. You can also use the Patch customizer if you scroll down even more, be sure to tick the "GL_EXTENSIONS patch - Fixes crash at startup" option.
