Hey admins.


Is it possible to change post numbering system. And what I mean by that is that each post has a randomly generated number unlike now i.e first post #1, second #2, third #3 etc.

I find this as a great way to increase forum activity and have some extra fun by playing play-by-post games or whatever they are called. (i.e Risk etc)

Not handy, if there are flamewars going on it's good to see at what postnumber it starts, if it's all random numbers it's not overviewable anymore.

imo risk or any other game anyone comes up with could be fun and you do not have to participate.
if there is a possibility to add such a feature, i doubt it could harm anyone.

In my opinion that kinda imageboard stuff and "real forums" don't mix well together. Things like "xx tells me how to mutilate my genitals" are disposable threads in a system that automatically cleans itself up.
Then again you can set IPB to autopurge a forum so I guess there'd be a possibility to have something like that alongside the other forums.

But are there really enough people who'd want a thing like this to justify the work it'd require?
Messing with the systemwide post numbers might even be pretty much impossible considering how IPB is structured, or at the very least a huge amount of work. In any case it'd be very confusing and impractical (& silly).

Adding some rng-in-a-post mod that'd only apply to a certain subforum would also require work. But again, is it something people other than you would use at all (or past the initial "curiosity spike" in activity)?

Anyway I can only speak for myself. I still doubt it's going to happen here.

Make a DBChan or something yourself and see how that goes?

Well you know, in any popular *chan there are more posts per second than there are per day in DB. To make a thing like that work somewhat similarly in here, you'd have to use random numbers
(though that's just more reason not to do it since it doesn't make much sense)
