i for one do believe that skill is VERY important in poker

my opinion is not founded by research but if skill isnt MORE important then luck, then why are there so many training sites/ e-books etc
and isnt a turn of luck a down/upswing?

in MTT's in particular luck is important, but skill is by far more important
if you know what the right move is ur more likely to make it, if you know what the right laydown is, ur more likely to laydown

IMO.

+ if poker was more luck then skill, then i wouldnt bother playing it, or we wouldnt see people build up bankrolls from nothing like boku did its just virtually impossible to make 5$ into 10.000 ish without alot of luck
contrary to other games such as roulette where there is no right (+EV) move so there it is just all luck
if poker would have the same luck % as roulette i doubt so many people would play it online so often
poker to me is not gambling sometimes u have to make a risky/gambling move, but in the long run, your not a gambler, your a poker player.

anyways, even though I'm not a pokerwhore like fastcolt, that's what I do the most also, betting small to check what others do
but in this situation, fastcolt > me, listening to him is like asking a crackjunk how to use crack, u can trust it :D

I didn't mean it like this way. I ment the thing where you're behind and need to take the risk and just see how it goes. If you hit it, it's luck in my eyes.
When you're clearly ahead and other guy hits a fh on a river, it's clearly a bad luck (I take bad beats as that). Because you never know what card can come up next, you only know the chance of getting it.

It's more about skill, but every poker player must also have a bit luck with him, like in other sports.

yes ofc, but read the article, its about, trying to prove that poker is not gambling at all, and therefor will and should be legalised

its not about if im behind can i get lucky? lol

Well that was the main point which I ment.
I think it's not legalized because it's a game with cards. For some reason Estonian schools etc also won't let kids to play cards during schooldays. It's like cards = 100% GAMBLE for some people.

Damn you're even more addicted to poker than Junior is to SoF2.

I don't care that much about poker that I'm gonna read books about it, check poker videos and know all players out of my head and shit like some of you do
Imo its about luck to get good card, luck that good cards will be putted on the table and that you have better cards than your opponents. When you got good cards you need the skill to win some chips/money.
I've been playing poker for some time already, pokerstars.net & facebook, also we sometimes get together with some friends to play poker just for fun...
You just need to be lucky getting the right cards and knowing when to use your chips in some situations.

Can't be about luck. So practically you say that there are few players who are the luckiest guys in the world so they get to the WSOP final tables all the time?

Yes duh, if you get good cards 20 turns in a row you will ofc get many chips/money if you got a bit skill to win all those turns.
People getting bad cards the whole time will have nothing at all so...
But thats my opinion, I ain't so skilled in this, I just do it for fun, i dont really care about the tactical parts of the game.

That's why you have bluf. You should watch High Stakes Poker when they're bluffing with big amounts.
Also that's the reason why med+ or high skilled players are not playing with beginners or usual players, because you can't know how they act. They'd go all in with anything, which is stupid. You may win once or twice with some stupid had like 68o or 93s or whatever, but poker is a marathon, not a sprint. So in longterm you would just give away free cash with hands like this.

Yea I hate the bluffing, I barely use it.
I just check/call til the first 3 cards are on the table, when I got nothing that could make me win I just fold.

No wonder you think the game is about luck
I thought the same in the beginning, but then I actually got into it. Read few books, watched tutorials, started to watch videos of tournaments & live games etc. Now I know that's all about your skills with a bit luck in some certain situation. I'd say it's like 90/10, tho it's impossible to exactly say the skill/luck %.

Also another factor is reading skill. Though you can't use it so much online than in live. In online poker you can only do it by betting pattern and speed.
My own favourite guy on that is Daniel Negreanu, amazing reader.

hehe i appreciate your opinion odi, even though its a bit of a noob opinion, i appreciate your honest about your point of view towards the game and u make a post that actually contributes

the real skill isnt in the cards u have, its in playing your opponents, knowing when to fold, and knowing when u can put someone of a hand

for example u get dealt QQ
which is one of the top 10 best hands in poker

and i got 27 offsuit which is the worst, either way i know you play the way you do and you will fold if u dont improve ur hand, so basically knowing this
when flop komes A K 3 and i have raised preflop which makes u think i have a good hand, and i raise again, u will probably think ur pair of queens cannot beat my possible Aces/kings and fold your hand even though if u called or just raised all in i would have folded and you would have won

and this is the skill part

ofcourse getting good cards is important but in a really big tournament for example 1000 players +
if u make itt far u will play about 4000 hands there are about 680 possible combinations of 2 cards you get dealt so AT AVERAGE u will get about 6 - 7 times A A

the skill then is, trying to make as much money as possible when u have it, and losing as less as possible, when u dont have good cards which isnt as obvious as it looks.
