True about HOMM 1-3, even though the combat area was a little bit too small in HOMM 2 and even smaller in HOMM1 but great games nevertheless.

Yeah guess it's impossible to say a single game, anyways here are some of mine on pc:

4. Half-life
5. HOMM 3

Haven't really played that much consoles, but guess a few nhl games, at least 95 and street fighter were some of the best on sega. On nintendo double dragon 3 without a doubt.

yeah its a great game, I played melee for a while and I was good at it, but its too fast paced and the combos aren't the same. IMO they made it perfect the first time, all they needed for a sequel was more characters, better graphics, and more stages.

check youtube for videos of "isai super smash bros" thats kinda how I play, except he is a bit faster but I am using the same techniques. Isai is number 1 super smash bros 64 player in the world, in melee hes like top5 as well.

Seems like a lot of people played metal gear solid. Actually above my pc I have a wallscroll of metal gear solid, its same one from in this pic:
