A MOD is like a different interface, different settings. You can see it like a game has more divisions (parts). Every part (every MOD) has different settings.
PROMOD is the most played MOD on COD4. But if you're a beginner than you'll see also PAMMOD. This MOD requires more FPS than PROMOD, so my recommendation is to move to PROMOD. Try to join a server with PROMOD and autodownload these MODS. PROMODLIVE2 is like the current version.
