Pepijn, born on 25-02-1988 in Amsterdam, grown up in Hoofddorp and living on my own now in Leiden.
I’m studying IT, webapplications in Amsterdam and training myself at a small company in Leiden.
In my free time I’m gaming of course, watching soccer a lot, chilling with my roommates and friends, playing other social games like cards or games with dices, fitnessing, swimming, going to parties and checking girls.
On Demobase, I’ve had a long history, but to make it not too boring, I’m now in the Cup Staff which satisfies me.
I hope to improve Cups on a new way with the Demobase Staff for the next generation.

Hi there!
My life is going fine, living on my own now and enjoying life as I’m still young and before I’m reaching the 30!
Time goes fast now, so every day is a joy.
Playing this game for 9 years. What makes this game so beautiful? And what makes it so annoying?
Of course the engine itself and the gameplay is still one of the best ever to me. You got many first person shooters out there, but somehow I like this game a lot. The nades here are so nice here, I love them.
Of course the Cups we organize as well makes it even better.
Nice battles against good clans is what everybody wants I think.
Also the possibility to modify this game is what makes it special.
Who ever thought we would have had Fairplay now like 5 years ago?
And the new gametypes and goldmaps? I was very satisfied when all of this appeared.
Now the Full community is joining us as well, we are becoming bigger and bigger.
There are also annoying things of course, every game got these details.
For example the leaning and shooting headshots in a 1on1 fight.
This is probably my worse skill still in this game. If I shoot one, I’m kinda lucky with it and I’m like “Wow..”, still surprised. Players like Bornovsk and Movsk were a pain in the ass for me, almost never won a 1on1 behind walls or objects.
So my tactic is to get a player out of his spot and kill him this way.
Further there are many annoying stuff, but you’ll get used to this like knockback, server crashes, fairplay crashing, map restarting meanwhile you couldn’t take a screenshot on the right moment and I can go on but they are small details, at least to me.
In your eyes, who could you always beat with your eyes closed when you’re left in a 1on1?
I can’t specifically name a player, I think many players are still not thinking logical. So I can deal the majority, depends also on the timings and the health.
Who would you say you’re a perfect match to in this game, skillwise?
Skoko, on goldmaps! We always got eachother like each turn. Of course there are more good players, but Skoko is a pain in the ass on goldmaps!
Are there still players you sometimes look up to or has 9 years been too long to do that?
Not really, I almost know everybody’s playing style now. There are a few players left who are unpredictable like Snugg, Sylt, Zioni, Raul, Steven, Dark, Skoko, Camham, Jim, Angel, Xillax and some more. It’s always hard to play against them. But I’m not really looking upward to someone like “Oh man not him..”.
When you lose a war with one of your clans, how does it feel for you? Are you one of those guys who smashes his desk into pieces (like nasta) or are you mostly happy about it?
I can be very pissed, frustrated. But I don’t break stuff. I don’t mind losing that much, but if see that your team could do better but was not doing it’s best or did many stuff wrong, I can be pissed on something like this.
Of course we play for fun as well, but I’m a serious guy who wants to win, it’s in my blood and my personality. But I try to stay objective and sportive as possible, like we lost in the final against Estonia I congratulate the opponent.
When did you feel most frustrated with this game? Maybe a tight war you lost, or some shit that was going on DB?
I think it was with .|E in the final against [ B ]. We were all scared for them and [ B ] could just walk over us. I felt we gave it so cheap away, back then I was very mad.
Who do you think is the best player ever and why?
This is hard for me to say. I’ve seen so many players during the years. In the past I think Drunkenmaster was like a legend. Nobody knew if he cheated or not since we didn’t have Fairplay, but I think the players who also played with me in that period can agree he was a master when it comes to reflexes. If there was like an idol in this game, he was it for me.
So I joined -={SWA}=- and learned a lot from them. When he became a bit inactive I remember I could reach his skill which was like my break-through in this game.
After this period it was easier to join clans like –I-R-Z-I- and sK., which were like the top-clans after this period.
The -={SWA}=- and [[ cG ]] times has learned me a lot.
So my conclusion is there is not really a best player, many players got their own style and if you want to improve you’ll have to learn several styles.
Some players stopped playing. What could be the reason for you to stop playing?
If I’ll become too busy or not in the mood to play anymore. But I’ve made many friends here, so I don’t think I can really stop. At least not like not meeting them anymore.
My goal in this game is to let the next generation play on an improved system of the game, like on goldmaps and with many new features.
It costs a lot of time to develop the community to something like this.
I’m now 23, so my best days are like over already, although I’m still happy I can play in c4. which is one of the top clans now.
A lot of players quit playing this game and I think you know some of them very well. Which players would you like to bring back in the community and in the game?
There were many nice players, Ark, Jani, Ninja, Rocky, Staff, Lauri, Fucker, Pablo Diablo, Genesis, Domi, Ush, Scantaxx, Henkhoofd, Jayro, Mociema, Goldrobert and many more I’m missing.
That’s why I’m still satisfied some players like Frozen, Xillax, Rocket, Jet li, Marty and the –HaZe- guys (although they are very inactive lately) are still playing!
So rumour taught me that you have a tendency to leave this community unexpectedly, sometimes for months at a time, is there any particular reason behind that?
Sometimes other stuff has priority above gaming. I won’t lie about that I’m kinda ‘addicted’ to gaming, so I’ll be honest and can tell you it’s hard to leave friends and/or this game for some months.
For example when I just went living on my own, my internet wasn’t working for 5 months, maybe 6. I really missed the time with c4. back then, but it’s something you accept and you’ll go on. If you got time again, it always feels nice to hear stories about new clans that are created and what players became good.
Another rumour: apparently the doctor has recommended you several times to stop gaming because it is supposedly damaging for your body. Are you following your doctor's tips?
Well this rumour isn’t really true, I went to the doctor to check my injury in my neck. But he didn’t say I had to stop gaming, neither did he recommend to stop it. He said I had to train another position in my chair, since I am sitting wrong. So I’m doing now exercises what is weird to do, but it’s for my health.
On a more positive note, over the past years, what’s the funniest shit you can remember that happened?
I think it was in a mixwar on goldmaps with Steve on the opposite. I had a sniper on HK2 and I had my lucky day. I did hit like every player at least once and mostly finished them. Steven was playing good as well, but when he came under me at apartments (in the middle of the map), I turned around because I heard someone. And with one shot scopeless like 30 meters distance, I killed him.
I was laughing so hard and he was like “dude, how lucky can someone be”. And I know how Steve can react on Mumble (we were in the same channel), so this was pretty nice. Over all these years I don’t know if this is really the funniest detail ever, but I won’t forget this hahaha.

We all know you're a core player of c4.
When did you join c4? Who recruited you?
I don’t really know when I joined c4., but it was in the time when sK. became inactive. I think we are talking about 2008/2009 (not talking about sK. in Noobroom Cup II time of course). And Skoko and Steven recruited me.
Which moment of being in c4. will you never forget?
There is not really a specific moment I can think off right now, but of course all the fun we had on ventrilo / mumble. Also our meetings, we are friends now and the evenings I won’t forget of course. Also winning the Facing Worlds II Cup is something I won’t forget so fast!
Some guys of c4. even met each other. How did that go?
It started with me, Skoko and Camham. As I’m living on my own there is enough space here to chill. So later on the rest came too and now we see eachother regulary.
Ah, so you got to see Skoko, Camham, Junior, Indosteelo, Crono, Dark and Steven. So who is the ugliest player of c4?
Hahaha, what a question. You realize if I name someone he’ll kick my ass next time we meet?

I can’t say who’s the ugliest lol, but Junior is the cutiest for sure! A Belgium belly!!
How are those players in real life?
Really nice, for many it’s weird to have meetings with online players, but for me it’s getting new people from the world to know.
I’m not afraid of anyone, of course I had to get used when I first met Skoko and Camham, but it turned out to be nice. Now we see eachother regulary just like the Avelgem meetings.
It’s nice to share your stories about the game together when you see eachother, with a beer it’s nice to do this.
What are your personal goals and the goals of c4 this year?
My personal goal was to win the Team Cup with fragtion., but unfortunately we failed. I’m still proud we won the bronze though.
With c4. my goals are actually already reached. We won a goldmaps 5on5 Cup and the INF Open Cup VI (last season).
I try now to win as many Cups as possible. Maybe a Cup winning on Full (1.00) with c4. or another clan would be great, who knows.

To start off, you did great in the nations cups and it was also because of you that Holland went into the finals this year.
At the start of the cup, did you ever thought you could reach the finals?
Actually yes, I knew Finland was a hard opponent but our team was good and I felt that reaching the finals was doable. We won the previous 2 Nations Cups so I knew we had a good chance winning it again. Reaching the final was our minimum goal.
Losing the final is f*cked up, but why were Steven and Skoko not playing? Couldn't you arranged it on some other day or were you happy with the line-up for the finals?
Our team was very good and even without Skoko and Steven we had a good chance.
Estonia surprised us by winning 3 1on1-situations. Else the odds would have changed to our favour I think.
Skoko was back on time, but I had to arrange the match with Howlinmad on MSN before, so I didn’t know if Skoko could play or not.
So I asked the rest of the line-up if they could play, since Skoko didn’t know when he would be back.
And when Skoko did confirm he could play, we had 5 already, and you’re not going to let someone down if you promised him to play especially not a final, that’s low.
I think Skoko understood my point of view, just the timing was fucked up.
And Steven didn’t want to play in the Nations Cup this time, I hope he does next!
CUPS
About the cups... which cup are you most proud of?
There are 2 cups I’m really proud on.
The ‘Kryptic’s Hosted Cup’ with sK. And the ‘Facing Worlds II’ with c4.
About the first cup, it was the first time (even though I didn’t play the final in this cup) sK., did grab the gold.
We won a war against 3v. I think it was where Kryptic played in (his Cup as well).
After we won, he said it was a forfeit win to 3v. meanwhile he agreed in the beginning of this war we could play (I think one of us wasn’t either registered or didn’t require valid information).
I was so mad after this war, I kicked him out of his own Cup, which was fatal to me as admin being, but due this sK. could still go for the gold.
So I personally felt we won the Cup with everybody.
After all I regret this action of course, I should have used another method to solve the situation.
About the second cup, it is the first cup on goldmaps I’ve won on 5on5.
If I ever quit someday and the next generation will play goldmaps in Cups, I will always remember we won with c4. the first goldmaps Cup on 5on5 which I am proud off!
Thinking about your long carreer... what was the most difficult decision you have ever made?
The most hard decision was like I mentioned above to kick Kryptic from his own Cup. Many guys from the community hated me after this.
It had it’s consequences and I had to face them, but I felt I had to do it. A time with long conversations with fights followed.
I remember being in IRC with the |she| guys (who were mainly in the Demobase staff by then) and they didn’t have any respect at all anymore, which was understandable.
After a long break, I decided to come back and make things right, so fortunately this time is behind my back.
Also I want to mention that leaving sK. was very hard. They were my real life friends in that time, but it went inactive.
I decided to join c4. It was hard to say the sK. members good bye, and it even led to some fights and discussions.
I hope they still see sK. as a good time with good memories, like I do!
CHEATING IN SOF2 GOLD
People can make mistakes in the past, you know. And we all learn from our mistakes.
Some say, you were banned in SOF2 Gold for cheating. Is this true?
Officialy I cheated, not on purpose but it happened. It’s a long story what is for many not believable, and I can understand them. Back in the days you had the old version of MSN. If your status was set to ‘Online’ and someone came online you saw a pop-up rightunder on your monitor. Meanwhile this happened, you could see all sprites through the level.
To make a long story a short one, I got caught and I should have put my status on ‘Busy’, so after all it’s my own fault but it’s not like I had the intension to cheat.
What is your ultimate goal or ambition in real life? What do you want to reach?
Next to being happy and healthy like the most of us, my goal is to extend my social network and getting people to know in the computer business so I can get to learn more about computers.
Also once I’m settled when I have enough money, I want to climb mountains and maybe work on LAN games on official matches.
Climbing mountains gives you another look on the world, far away from gaming.
I get to myself and it feels timeless.
Also the working on LAN matches is something I want to discover.
Maybe broadcasting or something, but it requires a long way to get here.
But once I got time, I’ll think of doing this.
Do you have some tips for our rookies out there, who are playing this game and would like to get better?
Be yourself, that’s most likely the most important after all. Even if your skill is low, don’t copycat another one’s personality. With an unique style you’ll probably reach the good places in the community. Also playing goldmaps is good for rookies, you play with the top of the community (since only them have these maps) and you’ll get to learn a lot. It costs time to come there, but if you make friends here and there you’ll come there someday.
