Azzy: “Sylt is a crazy swedish motherfucker, although I've known him for almost 9 years I think (over the interwebz), you never really know when he's serious about something, he's one of the weirdest persons on demobase for sure. A lot of his posts are epic, worth gold, sometimes I think he should become a comedian.”

SHORT INFO
Outside of SOF2
I was born in 91' and grew up in the north of Sweden, which isn't really the north, but considered the north among swedes. For a living I get the generous swedish student subsidy by studying Chinese and Computer Science. I love having a good programming session, but I hate being taught by old creepy men with powerpoint-presentations. So I'm basically self taught. Programming PHP is a little hobby of mine, which has become very useful in making SOF related sites. I like numbers also because they're the only reliable thing in this world. I also like outdoor activities. I've been alpine skiing since I was a kid (competitive skiing until I became a rebellious teenager) and I basically master all water sports such as sailing, wakeboarding to kiteboarding. I spend my summers teaching kids these things. One of the best jobs in the world. Two years ago I found a new hobby, climbing/bouldering and now I'm such a g33k monkey climbing 3-4 days a week.
PERSONAL SHIT
Yo Sylt! What's poppin'? What are your plans for today (sunday)?
In the morning I was glued in front of the TV watching Vasaloppet, which is the largest cross country ski competition in the world. Had to make sure not some norwegian fella won. After that I've been chopping down some forest on my familys property. A couple pine trees. Makes me a proper lumberjack. By axe and chainsaw I felt the testosterone just pumpin out my veins. Then I went ice skating with my mom on the sea. I guess my testosterone got in balance after it.
Tell us something about Swedes. There are a lot of stereotypes. Which of them are true? Harharhar.
We have blonde hair, have names like Gunnar and -sson, vikings, high tech and we mostly agree that we should give Skĺne (a region in south sweden full of nic khalifas) to Denmark. That's me. Proud Swede!
Do you have a girlfriend?
No, searching passively
You went to Israel. Why?
I had October off, waiting to start my studies. Swedish Octobers suck. It's a between-period without any charm and delivers nothing but 5-10 degrees and rain. Decided to go south for ~3 weeks and found Israel an interesting option. Cheap flight tickets aswell. Awesome. Let's go.
How was it like seeing Israel and meeting Agertz?
I met him only the 2nd and 3rd day out of 19, so it was actually a pretty short visit. But it was fun as fuck seeing his jewish fuckface that I had basically only seen on "Post ur pic" topic in the middle of the fucking middle east. Met him on a train station with his army uniform on and went to his town. We hadn't even chatted _that_ much before. I barely knew him, although now we're homies. He and his family were so nice to me and welcoming. Had to lie to his mom though that I was a jewish volunteer (agertz idea). HAHA I just have to think about it to start laughing my ass off. I was so non-jewish you can be, she can't possibly have believed it LMFAO.
His brothers were also fun. Laatje came home later from the army. I discovered then that Laatje was actually
Didn't need a rocket scientist to figure out his favourite food was McDonalds, really.
Do you have some awesome stories (not related to Agertz/Laatje) from Israel to tell?
Yes
What was the most shitty thing in Israel and why?
The security checks were ridiculously many. When I got out of the plane I was pulled aside from the crowds by weird security personnel 3 times, explaining my purpose in the country. Wasn't a nice welcome. On every bus station there were metal detectors and security checks. Although half of the security people I met were in the middle of the night, with bored soldiers roughly the same age as me. They always chatted me up asking all kinds of questions. Socializing or control questions, idk, but they recommended places to visit, bars to go to etc. meanwhile they checked my bag. Friendly chaps all of them. But hey, they knew I didn't carry something weird and I was humming "I can do whatever I'm white inside my head.
What was the most awesome thing in Israel and why?
The thing about going on such a trip is meeting all kinds of people while lolling around. I met sof players, world-travelers, diver-chicks, journalists, whining palestinians, gay right activists, palestinian-hating americans, us iraq forces taking holidays. A south korean dude named Caesar who was lost in israel (i helped him to cairo LOL). Mostly great experiences, combined with days full of 25-30 degrees recreation while experiencing genuinely interesting history both religiously and politically, the trip was definitely a 10. I could write a book about my travels, but since this interview is aimed towards hardcore gaming readers, I won't turn this into a travelogue.
SOF2 RELATED
Playing this game for 9 years. What makes this game so beautiful? And what makes it so annoying?
I've been playing SOF for a while. Definitely not constantly since 2003, but I've been around to see the changes. Some years I haven't played at all, and some years I've only played a couple months. If I feel that I played too much I've normally done a "syltquit" (closely related to a "ragequit") where I spontanously remove my SOF2 folder and SOF2 contacts and disappear. For a week or two. Luckily I use to mail myself the .cfg-file. That's pretty weird now that I think about it. Creepy.
Did you ever ragequit? What did you do then?
Not my style
Do you ever shout at people ingame? What kind of a person are you as a teamplayer?
I'm the guy who laughs at my raging team. It makes them rage even more. At my extremes I shout "black person!" when someone killed me who really didn't deserve it.
In your eyes, who could you always beat with your eyes closed when you’re left in a 1on1?
Feinth. He loses every 1on1 with CODE
Who would you say you're a perfect match to in this game, skillwise?
I think junior
Are there still players you sometimes look up to or has 9 years been too long to do that?
I actually saw Drunken Master as a big inspiration. I still remember some of his kills from public servers when I was left with my mouth wide open by amazement. I admire luminaire for his attitude tho. I notice when he has bad days or is pissed, but then he's usually just silent (that's the trick). Even though I know I've been being a bitch to him, he's always acting nice. Perhaps he just suffers from bad memory, what do I know...
When did you feel most frustrated with this game? Maybe a tight war you lost, or some shit that was going on DB?
As long as my team isn't whining I like the game. Compare losing to a mid-skill clan with -CODE- ("WHAT THE FUUCKKKKKKK") to losing with s3'5 ("NICE, BUT LETS TRY TO GET MORE POINTS"). It's the main difference imo. I've played so long that I don't really care about the results anymore, since I feel I've got nothing to prove to anybody. Demobase is just pure entertainment, like reading a gossip newspaper for chicks. Mostly full of junk, but somehow it's fun.
Who do you think is the best player ever and why?
Let's just say I don't completely agree with DemoMash. Sometimes I see it as a monster I created that went nuts. But it's fairly accurate. I don't think there is a #1 player AT THE MOMENT. The top spectrum of players is very very even, it's all about the daily shape. It's actually hard realizing that people who were nonamers/noobs in 2005 or 2008 are pro in 2012. "Forever anoob" in my eyes
CLANS
Which was the most awesome clan/team you were ever in?
In 2004 I played with a bunch of estonians. They were the only ones who didn't consider me an "annoying kid/hacker"-kind of person. (I think I was really annoying back then, like the bad sides of butcher/acer/camham combined in one). The clan was called "id : " (originally "projektzwo"). Got really tight with these guys back then. Me and a guy called Latikas were the top players, and he followed me in 2005 to start my new clan PONY (which I started together with Azzy, but I got the leader role). With a core of 5-6 of the best players in the game, PONY was amazing and we played 100+ war for a year without losing (except some 3v3 (inb4 xillax)). -HaZe- was one of the best clans aswell, but they never accepted a challenge against us. The whole -HaZe- crew were still anti-sylt by then. But the attitude towards me within the whole community changed with PONY and I earned some respect.
Why was the -HaZe- crew Anti-Sylt? What did you do?
I had hacked some guy's MSN (I think it was Farlig's MSN) and websites maybe. My memory fails here. And I had cheated alot in clanwars. I was just being generally disturbing.
You lead a few clans with Wombat. What’s up with him?
He's the guy who connected the polish and eurocommunity. (Writing that sentence made me think of this song "Who Let the Dogs Out"). He was like a father/ambassador for the polish players, since he was the only one who spoke understandable english, haha. With him we introduced alot of interesting .pl nabs to high skill demo clans and players like deadman, windows and proskiller who were nonamers to the euros started playing in me and wombat's clans (GP, Ks). I was a big fan of Wombat's irl stuff and we used to talk so much shit. When he was working in Sweden he called and texted me creepy messages. Rip.
On Demobase you said azzy betraid PONY. How did that happen?
To quote an old PONY news story: “azzy left PONY for OG because they say cool stuff like 'ayo chump'”. He came back later when we he realized his mistake.
Of all players, you have to pick 5 to be in your “ALL TIME BEST”. Who would you pick? They have to be active though.
All time best, but have to be active? That's not the all time best in my book. But today in a mixteam I'd pick Zioni Luminaire Ghostbuster and Katana. Now you counted to 4, but read again, I was captain.
But I said you have to pick 5 (your top 5). Who would your 5th choice be?
I can't pick myself? I could basically pick any of the code members, but fuckit, I'll go for Angel.
.. more shit about awesome clan/team
I haven't really been a team-guy, until I joined -CODE-, so CODE4LYFE best team evahhhh
Which was the most shitty clan/team you were ever in?
I think HaZe was a pretty boring clan because they lacked all social stuff needed for a clan. For example when people started playing with Ventrilo, HaZe didn't. But in a class of its own c4 is probably the most rotten clan for the reasons of kicking me. They didn't have balls enough to take critisism or having a proper discussion. Having these attributes appearently doesn't qualify you as c4 material. Be a cocksucker and take it anally by the leaders and you'll be gladly accepted in c4.
Tell about the friction between you and the leaders that got you kicked?
Original 3v was pretty messed up aswell (rip scott). It lead to me hacking this poor fellas computer, exposing his complete private life to the cyberweb. Totally respectless by me, but I thought he was an asshole at the time because he was talking behind my back. I didn't really care about it back then, but when I think about it, it's probably one of the meanest thing you can do. Wasn't very good for my karma. He went offline for weeks/months and never really fully returned after it. People shouted out the most rude thoughtless things online after I had exposed his "dark sides". For us it was just entertainment, for the lulz you know. For someone like him who spent years of his life behind the PC and your online life is ruined - it has to affect you as a person. I felt like such an asshole when he passed away.
Is there a clan or team you ever wanted to join, but were too shy to ask that clanleader to join them?
No
Let’s ask it the other way around. Did someone ever desperately wanted to join your clan/team?
People have baked cakes, bought servers and been “war finders” for my clans. 3 cakes in total. A few servers. The warfinders were really handy. I just bumped him on MSN and said “need war” and he showed up 5-10 mins later with a war. Once in a while I let him play too. Unfortunately the times are changing. Nowadays this is my every day team conversation over MSN when I ask if they found war: “Z i o N i says: ive been searching for a war u lazy ass motherfucking viking piece of shit shut up pls”
Who is your good friend on SOF?
Nistarb and Butcher are the ones that I chat with almost every time I'm online. I think it's because we have a lot in common. I'm also occasionally disturbing Kopernicus, Agertz, Katana or Zioni over MSN.
Who do you hate on SOF or who do you find a jackass on SOF?
NetBoss is one of the few guys I've unleashed my rage upon. But nowadays I don't hate on anyone. Eraser and Camham are quite entertaining in a jackass kind of way, but I don't really know these guys.
CUPS
How many cups did you win?
Playing 2-3 months a year (cups started being popular around 2007) has led to me never finishing a cup. Except last year's team cup with -CODE-. Dunno if 3v won some cups, but that wasn't on my account really. I haven't had a real stationary PC since 2007 either. Had an iMac '07 and now I'm playing on a laptop. That's definitely a bottleneck for my gaming performance and a reason I don't really see myself as a gamer kid.
Which cup do you admire the most?
Nationscup used to have the most prestige in my eyes. But the high skill swedes disappeared long ago. The dutchies have it too easy nowadays.
Which cup would you like to win and why so?
As I said earlier, I don't really feel that I have anything to prove to anyone. But I really enjoy cupwars more because people do their best and don't spam the chat, really.
VS AMEX
There was and still is some rivalry going on between -CODE- and -aMeX-. SyLt's views on the rivalry:
How did the rivalry started?
CODE members fucked amex girlfriends (and boyfriends). Pissed them off. To make it even more miserable for them, we faked an internal fight and faked CODE:s death and "joined" -aMeX-. First war we played together, we did our binds "FUCK AMEX, CODE4LYFE" and ragequit.
Is -CODE- ever gonna befriend -aMeX-?
No
Why not?
Obvious answer. Amex are little cocky scums who think they are the shit, but they can only win wars with 5/5 c4 players. But in the end they are only trolling noobs who by rights should retire.

We're almost at the end of the interview now. We all, obviously, are anxious to hear about your future plans, so what are they?

IT’S OVER
Let’s wrap it up Sylt. I guess everybody’s has fallen asleep by now. Do you got anything to say to our lovely community and/or your clan/team, and/or somebody else?
Big thanks to the people who make this game worth while! (You know who you are!)
I'd also like to state some confessions/truths that I've thought of by reflecting during this interview:
- Juelz is the only cool OG
- Butcher sells my sites that I would give for free
- Xillax has just been rippin off parts of my sites
- Ive been checking out littlejays ass on fb
- I've been a full nab. 2004-2005ish. 1st/3rd/kam2 didn't matter - I was the 1.00 baws
- I did a megatroll once and returned to SOF2 as a "pro quake 4 player" and joined uG. He mysteriously disappeared after a few weeks
- The dbdick.jpg (the ketchupd "hot dog" with demobase.eu handwritten) was photoshopped. Wasn't my D
Voila. There we have it. Thanks for the interview!
I've enjoyed your interviews before and I hope people enjoy this just as much. Thnx to you too fläär!
