The Zeitgeist Movement SOF2 Demo - Revival Project
======================================
This is all very rough, and I will be updating it daily if not more than that.

Hello, I'm D-Day, and I've been an off/on Sof2 Demo gamer since 2006. Within that time I've enjoyed this community for what it has taught me. I had my first international social experience with this game as I have met many people across Europe, Australia, and the Oceania Area of the planet. Also within this time, I developed an interest in contributing towards the community, first with simple texture modifications and shortly after, maps.

The above is a screenshot taken within Zeitgeist_forward, one of four new maps that I am currently working on for Sof2, but more specifically, for Sof2 Demo. Three of these maps will be placed in an upcoming Sof2 Demo Distribution Package that a friend of mine is organizing for The Zeitgeist Movement.

Basically, a Zeitgeist Influenced Version of Sof2 Demo is in the works.

What This Means For You
The ultimate goal of distributing this version of the game is to get Sof2 Demo's player count back up to at least triple of what it is now daily, by using a new theme to influence gameplay (The Zeitgeist Movement).

You may say that Sof2 is dated, and that much newer games catch the interest of the common gamer. However, we can only hope that new comers will see the humor and overall enjoyment that we have with this game. Furthermore, if we can get this version of the game into a good bit of High School Networks, we may actually have a good chance of getting player numbers back up, with the intentions of these students becoming Sof2 Demo Gamers.

Method of Distribution
A common windows installer will be used to setup game files on Windows PC's. We may also release a Network Edition for LAN File Servers (School Networks, Office, etc.). As of now, we plan to distribute the installer by torrent.

What Will This Package Install Exactly?
As of now (Last Updated 7-17-2012)

- Soldier of Fortune II Demo (The Raven Patch will replace the typical exe file)
- Zeitgeist_labs
- Zeitgeist_warehouse
- Zeitgeist_forward

All three Zeitgeist Maps will come with all models and textures needed and will all be in one pk3 file (Zeitgeist.pk3)

When Will This Distribution Be Released?
The current date to have everything finished is set for the 22nd of July. Although this is just a few days away, we may have to push it back for a bit. The project will be released August 1st at the latest.

At Least Two New Multimap Servers
A Zeitgeist Movement Server will start running on the date that the project is finished. It is planned to cycle just the three Zeitgiest Maps 24/7, with the possible inclusion of mp_shop.

I on the other hand, plan to bring my multimap server back for the first time in several years. My server will also be online starting the day that this project is released. The map rotation for my server will change every two weeks, with the setlist for the current rotation and the rotation for the following two weeks posted on my website. The current setlist for the first two weeks (July 22nd - August 4th) may change and is as follows...

I want to keep the biweekly mapcycle at just seven maps for now.
I also want to note that max_zena is a masterpiece, and it will be used in a later mapcycle when we start getting a lot of players.

Website / Map Cycle Updates Info
When the cycle for a two week session ends, the next mapcycle list under the "upcoming" table will replace the previous list under the "current" table on the website. The mapcycle for two weeks later will be posted in the "upcoming" section within a day.

I want to hear what you guys and gals like, feel free to contribute here! As you can see, the map cycle for the second biweekly session is currently incomplete.

Currently, my website only displays information about the maps that I have created. Come release time for The Zeitgeist Movement Sof2 Project, I will have a Server Tab on my menu bar which will link you to mapcycle info and other significant information. The three new Zeitgeist Maps (Zeitgeist_labs, Zeitgeist_Warehouse, and Zeitgeist_forward) will also be available on the main page. The fourth map that I'm working on is mp_annulment and should be set for release on August 1st.

In Conclusion
I hope that other community leaders will be able to follow similar suite by hosting their own multiple maps server (not immediately, but when all of this takes off as it should within the next several months).

The Zeitgeist Movement Sof2 Demo Project (I think we're calling it this) should bring many new players into the game for many reasons. Remember that Sof2 Demo is simple. The game directory can be copied anywhere and can usually be played as is. Get in touch with any kids/scriptkiddies (whatever) that go to schools in your area, and provide them with some copy of this game. This game should also spread moderately throughout the Zeitgeist Community if all goes well.

My server will be named Staph-Mapping.tk for the reason of a normal Sof2 Demo player having only mp_shop tries to join the server. They won't be able to, and will see my URL where I can only hope they will be able to patch their game upon visiting.

I want to thank Dink for hosting his dedicated community towards such a brilliant game. Dink's servers went online around the time I stopped playing a little while back, and I honestly believe that if it weren't for him this game would be 100% dead by now.

+1 for the post and effort you're putting into this but a few simple maps aren't going to 'save' our demo as it is. Infact 'we' (not me because I hate maps ;$) play maps everyday, mixwars, clanwars.. the public game is 99% dead yes, but our competitive scene is still alive. I think it's safe to say we have 5 clans and teams active and warring almost everyday, which means we get to play sof everyday if we want to.

What I don't get is why you are using the name of Zeitgeist Movement for these maps..
I'm familiar with the Zeitgeist Movement and I don't see any link or what so ever with the ideology and thoughts of the movement.
Kinda fucking up a good name imo.

I know that some of you believe this whole idea was pulled out of my ass in an instant, but as some sort of clarification, I'm just the map editor for the project and I'll more than likely later on contribute towards a website and advertising. That's practically it for me. My friend, you may probably remember him as Netboss or Baki came up with the theme for this project. I know that Zeitgeist is indeed a peaceful movement, but in all honesty shit is going to hit the fan globally sometime in the near future.

In essence, you could see playing these three maps as emulating future events.

The marketing strategy sounds like a failure, and it may be so. Some people may see it as an old game. Some may see it as just a simple way to pass time. Even if they're not dedicated players, you'll all still have one more noob to own for thirty minutes to an hour. A kid sitting in a computer lab at a high school isn't going to care if the game is old or new. His intentions are to be disruptive towards his learning environment. As I said, this game is easy to setup and play and is absolutely perfect for LAN file servers.

Well put, we're going to be putting a lot of work into advertisement for this project so we may just have a fair chance. But who knows..

Where in my statement did I say that my maps are better than others?

The custom maps that I've played, especially the goofy ones such as swimmin_pool, and the maps made by Awesome-O inspired me to start making maps myself. In no way do I see my maps as superior to any other map made for this game. The three maps that I've created for this project are made specifically for the project, as they are in sync with the theme.

Now, in the event that you are asking me why haven't any custom, full, or gold maps been included into the project, then I can promptly answer your question.
The last time I talked to Netboss about including other into the project, he said no. I hope that I will be able to change his mind though, as I want to include mp_shop69, mp_jor, metal_c, mp_shop_sic, a_party, bigfreakin_house, some of the prague maps, and maybe a few of the Kamchatka's.

I also wouldn't mind any other map suggestions to be posted here.

Check the website of insane, just use hes map packs + gold pack + your maps, and every new/all players got all the maps.

oh well w/e :D I meant that he included his maps in a new sof files that everyone will be playing. I was wondering why he thought ppl would prefer to play his maps rather than others. ie : what is special in his maps ?
