Don't lie, Core i7 @ 4.6Ghz doesn't even excist.
Best on the market atm is an Overclocked Intel® Core™ i7 980x Extreme (4.0GHz, 12MB Cache)
Unless you overclocked it extremely, but I doubt that is any good. And processors like that cost way to much.
It's overclocked by the manufacturer so it means you can do it far beyond that in your personal O/C : )
Wicked stuff there btw Mr. Postman.

There's a reason my CPU is watercooled. It's the 'standard' Core i7 920, which runs at a default speed of 2.67 Ghz, which is heavily overclocked as noted by some others.
For the geeks, no, HyperThreading is still turned on, yes, boost mode is disabled, locked multiplier at 20x. & no, it's not the new D0 batch, it's the 'old' C0, which runs extremely well.
The guy above me is totally correct. I've posted my overclock results, pictures and specs earlier on Hardware.info. That's why they are watermarked.
Thanks to the rest for your positive input.
That's a Razer DiamondBack 3G btw, but I'm considering to switch as it keeps 'running to corners', as in, the mouse is dying. Suggestions? I don't want the DPI to be too high, as I need to know where I click.

I dunno but I can also post some random pics from a hardware forum here and say it's mine...
Anyway if it's true, very nice poop you got there!
I got a Core i7 950, is the overclocking any good for your system? I got enough speed tho, won't overclock probably.

That's when I started to play SoF2 Full, with my clan, [R.S.I]. And to date, I still do, just on a system with higher end specs. I rarely game though, most I play is SoF2, Metro 2033 and Crysis & some Quake 3. I posted I normally have 3 monitors, I tend to code a lot and that's where the multiple screens and the 3 video outputs on the GTX 295 come in handy.
Other than that, I'm a hardware fanatic who loves to 'play' with it (not that way, you h*rny individuals).
950 should be a perfect candidate to overclock, just make sure you're running anything else than the stock cooling, as that sucks ass. If the system you have is less than 9 months old, you have a high chance of having the D0 batch, which overclocks better generally. You can buy my old Thermalright TRUE 1366 cooler if you want, still looking to sell it after I made the switch to liquid.

Since I bought a new desktop about 1 month ago my system specs are kinda familiar with yours
Intel Core i7 950 @ 3.07GHz
1,8 GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 295
12 GB DDR3 Memory (1333 MHz)
And I got watercooling.

It does shorten the lifetime of a processor, but basic rules are sorta, the processor will die when you've replaced it already anyway. Of the 12 years it might last, it will perhaps make 8. But who cares, especially when you've got high end hardware you're not replacing it every 10 years.. That'd be insane.
Heat is the primary killer, but don't be too quick, voltage is just as important. Be sure when you begin to overclock, you know what every setting does and don't just up everything. Some things need to stay low, some things need to stay close to other rates. I could walk you through it though.
It's pretty neat stuff you have there, but sorry to say, custom built would've been better. The 12 GB is overkill, you could've gotten 6 on a higher speed and perhaps invest in an SSD. I have 6 GB RAM 1600 Mhz rated RAM (at ~1867 Mhz) and it's not like I come short of it. Definitely not. Have you already disabled your page file though? I'll be glad to help you tweak some.

Thanks for the info, does overclocking has any effect to the lifetime of your processor? Always thought it was no good..
