only thing holding back australians when i played was ping which kept them back from playing good teams and actually improving as someone else has said. unfortunately, if europe (main group of players in sof2 demo in my past experiences) was situated in the southern hemisphere, and americans were the ping-isolated continent, they would experience the same problem.
