The 3rd person crosshair was added due to many requests. It took an entire 30 minutes to implement and was added as an option, as is everything in the mod, so its not like its the main feature or set in stone. Some people might see it as a cheat or "noobish", but then again third person itself is a cheat and has always been, no matter how many 17 year old kids try to defend it. The fact is the mod was not finalized, hense the RC1. There was still room for improvements and suggestions were always welcome at anytime. Asking if the server could control whether the clients could enable the crosshair might have been the better option then complaining about it. Negativity rarely helps in any situation, so thats something to keep in mind.
is this mod made for 5 year olds ?
competitive players/H&S players really couldnt care less about all this customizable hideous shit and as full BARELY has players that arent playing competitive or H&S, this has been a huge waste of time for whoever created this.
theres no way u can adjust this mod in order to make it compete with RPM.. I doubt shifty would even allow it in FP as mods like this one have been blocked for a reason
The mod was designed to be customisable without changing the core aspects of the game and without giving any game play advantages to those that wish to use the mod. Its far more complex and flexible then any mod on SOF2 and at times Ive had to change certain aspects of it because it was too complicated for the average user. If its too complex for you, then do not use it. Its that simple.
In reality I started this mod as a competition mod, but decided to go into a more "fun" direction because SOF2 is not a competitive game anymore and hasnt been for years. Playing in a "clan war" or tournament of the remaining clans that have yet die out is not "competitive gaming". The skilled and competitive players moved on long ago with life or with other truely competitive games. As for H&S, the top 1.00 servers are running either RPM .7 or RPMPro (SC, YOB, S4A) and of those 3, 0 run H&S so that statement is untrue.
It doesnt need to "compete with RPM" and I have no intention of ever building a mod around any software such as Fairplay or mousetrap that is not incorporated in the original game. It has nothing to do with fairplay itself, but the sof2 user base as a whole. If that was an issue, I would have built a similar program into the mod. In either case, it would be up to the developers of fairplay to add the checksum for the mod. But, as I said, it makes little to no difference to me because thats not what this project was about.
As far as it being a waste of time... of course it is. But what exactly is there about SOF2 or gaming in general isnt a waste of time?
I agree as well. It would've been better to focus less on the client side of this Mod, we all use RPM 0.78 anyways and the few that don't use RPMPro.
This is the second comment youve made about using RPM as a client. RPM was a simple admin mini-mod. period! It might be the "holy grail" to programmers that do not understand the q3 engine or even programming as a whole. RPM has very little to add to the game, especially from the client stand point; given how little ANY RPM based mod has attributed to the client. That and the client-server communication is extremely poor in RPM and to go backwards to support that is just idiotic. If the world worked that way we would have never gotten beyond the stone age. Why repeat what has been done time and time again? Is it complacency or what? RPM should be a stepping stone to get you were you need to be and not the foundation.
Players use RPM .78 because it was forced onto them as the only option by server hosts trying to get people to rent their subpar servers so they can make a profit. Sof2 is the only game you will find things such as that occurring and it has suffered for that reason. Players dont use it because its the best. They use it because its the only option available and its available at a cost.
Fortunately for those that are less then thrilled about this project, they will be happy to know its been delayed and more then likely will be cancelled due to the amount required to finish the project and of course there is the overhelming lack support by the "community" that has helpped me come to that conculsion.
