He had the exceptional ability to make players WANT to play FOR him, to get the maximum, 100%, out of a sof2 player. Anyone who was regularly playing for us, back in the day, can confirm that in every war, he made it feel like you were part of something bigger, some sort of a larger unified movement on a mission that NEEDED to be fulfilled, facing an opponent that HAD to get raped. Every time.

i feel sorry to say this, but you sound like christians talk about jesus, muslims talk about muhammed (peace be upon them) and nos reporters talk about messi, I'm sure all of these people were good and talented people, but please don't talk about humans like they are gods and expect to be taken serious

leading is so overrated, put the right people on the right spot, give them proper information so they can warm up and the rest depends on individual skills + teamplay (which doesn't depend on the leader, but communication and the amount of time played together)
like it used to matter for fleim how he's gonna play whatever i tell him it's not like he had 20+ kills over 3/4th of the wars because I motivated him so much
like azzy was outaiming almost everyone because i whispered him the right sweet things during his battles
like rocket did his retarded shit what sometimes somehow magically worked (but mostly failed, however, some things were really funny though hahahaha) because starelite had such an healthy entertaining environment and we all accepted each others mistakes like we were brothers, no, we yelled at that motherfucker every time he messed up again, but he kept trying, and the more we yelled he tried harder to fuck with us... because he is rocket
we have lost wars against a bunch of losers like nC, not even 6 months later we were somewhat equal to c4 (during the last couple of wars), and I'm sorry to tell you this, and I'm sure a lot of people will agree with me here, this had definitively not much to do with the leader
outside the game this had obviously everything to do with the leader, after all, i was the one recruiting and flushing people, and i could tell them that we were gonna war in 10 minutes so they would have time to get ready (food, movie or whatever) and warmup so they could start comfortably, but that's about it
once the war started the leader didn't matter anymore though, it's not like someone who had a bad aim magically got his aim on track because i did some prayers, it all depended on individual skills, if two or three players had an off day we were gonna have a hard time, if two or three players had a good day, the enemy was gonna have a hard time
when you play for example c4 and you are a leader and have muumi, activee, dread and fastlain next to you, you're gonna have a bad time, when you have azzy, fleim, rocket and foxdie next to you, just lay back and watch them do their thing

moral of the story: leadership matters mainly outside wars, during wars it mostly depends on who you're playing with and their shape
if u have players like ros had, who had never been in top clans, but had been active for weeks so they want to proof their selfs, of course they will fight for every inch and perform more than people expect from them, where c4 on the contrary, imo underperformed because they are so used to playing cups that they see a cupwar as a regular war (or maybe the other way around?) and see a quarter final as 'just a quarter final', of course i dont know the exact situation so dont burn me if im wrong, but this is just my interpretation of some situations

PS. yes its an essay related to starelite and yes I'm realistic enough to realize what starelite has achieved was nothing special, but how could i ever write an objective paragraph about any other clan

Well, seeing as everybody who has ever known hokie is wetting their keyboards with tears of joy or anger when writing about him, I think we can conclude that he had quite an influence on everybody and was a very charismatic person to some, and equally obnoxious to others. Playing a war with hokie leading was reassuring. Yes, at times he was more of a talisman than an actual leader, but sometimes it worked the other way around. One thing's for sure: he took this game (not necessarily the playing but more the managing) more seriously than anyone else and by doing so, he managed to create a very strong clan. Personally, I always found the advice he gave me on vt when I was the last one standing extremely helpful, to that extent that I won the most 1onXs (or maybe even my only 1onXs hahahaha) when playing with him. In that aspect, he kind of reminds me of a parent, coaching his kid to excel at some sport and reach a level he himself wasn't able to reach.

Anyways, Rene, don't forget -=TS=- with hOllanD, you, me and some other dudes.

Sylt it's not rocket science if you are in sk-3v crowd when you can easily get exped skilled players. A clan filled with guys like that can lead itself. It's harder When you start from the bottom, trying to make something out of nothing like Turqua with Se; it's harder. It takes some personal characteristics to make a clan like that work, that's why most of these clans live two weeks. You have to deal with incompetent noobs, try to recruit brainless aimers with 'potential' or young guys who gonna nolife, or guys who suck but are active and you have to balance everything out in game while the lineup changes every 3weeks because most players treat your clan as stop in their quest for joining 3v.

You probably haven't been in clan like that for some time so you don't remember.

better synergy, better leadership although talent level was lower in ros.
Ros. overachieved at times because it was lead so well IMO. These guys from that other clan blamed themselves and got angry during/after games so yeah, i guess it matters.

Some interesting responses so far, with a lot of irrelevant stuff inbetween.

Sylt, I've been active as a leader for avelgem a long time (now not as much), and i led 3v together with abu and yoshi too for a while. I think it's safe to say and we all remember it sucked by then, even though we had the same roster.

I never said leading was rocket science, I said some people can really have a positive influence on their clan as a leader and it can make a huge difference.
How would you and the rest of the anti-leader movement explain that we always performed way worse with 3v when Hokie wasn't there? He made sika win those crucial 1onX's. Usually when he's in a crucial 1on1 or 1onx he gets too stressed and manages to accidentally jump off the roof.

Would "growing-in-skill" clans like ros and bro have become as succesful in the past without the leadership that was involved there?

Would c4 have lived this long and got this good without skoko's persistence as a leader in the past?
Would she even be around without Seych to guide everything from the start?
I also know from experience we play worse without Seych, even when he's replaced by a player who's about as equally skillful.

Please argue their the leadership in these examples is of no relevance.

It's also interesting to see that most people agreeing have been in a clan or team themselves that was raised from the ground with a bunch of (more or less) unknowns.

Fuck the leadership, all you need is a core group of guys who enjoy to play together, and that's a route for success.
