shoutbox has actually been pretty useful for organizing mixes 
if u want to talk to person x only, take it to msn

Tried it several times, people always lost interest. Wouldn't bother again unless you know how to convince people it's a good idea.Like we used to have with IRC if I am not mistaking.
That new shoutbox seems to be doing the job fairly well anyway. It's just really limited and it's really hard to join in to any ongoing discussion (no backlog).
