ExcelServers.org has good hardware:

Gameserver Specs
- Xeon Quad Core; 3.2 GHz
- 4 GB of Ram
- Windows 2003 Server Operating System
- 10,000 MegaBit connection!!
- 160 GB Sata HDD

The amount of Ram and CPU are not important for SoF2 because the Q3 engine is not very demanding. It's more important whether or not these servers are overloaded (as in running too many gameservers on a single machine which causes lag).

btw you should restart your servers every once a while(rcon quit or use specified control panel) not keep it online for weeks.

ExcelServers is most likely dead as the website is always down.

RoxServers.com hardware :
Pentium Quad Core Weon X3350 or more
8Gb ram
Windows 2003 optimized and configured for gaming services
2x1Gigabyte/sec connections uncapped
2x1000Gb Sata2 HDD in RAID 1 (better performances + in case of a hardware failure the second HDD replaces automatically the failing 1 and no1 even notices it)

Daily backup of our master servers.
Our servers are autorestarted weekly at 5am,
Source servers (CSS, GMOD, etc) are automatically restarted daily at 5 am,

Instant setup (if paying with paypal you can get your server within 2 minutes online and ready to use : all is automated)

Users can reinstall their server at anytime by clicking a button.
Users can install our preconfigured mods and patches by clicking a button (exemple for sof2 demo you can install caserun by clicking it on your cpanel). Patches/mods are added on demand.
Full FTP access to add your own mods, patches, files ; unlimited FTP space.

You can configure your server with a simplified form if you dont wana deal with the .cfg files

Our automate (robot installling servers on machines) is set to stop installing game servers as soon as the CPU reaches 50% usage in peak hours : this way we prevent any lag possibility by keeping a comfortable marge of 50% CPU.

I disagree, in my opinion the value of my ping is very important. I feel the difference between 50 and 10 msec latency when playing SoF2 and it influences my play alot, quite often being the difference between killing or being killed. The mean reaction time for young adults is 160-190 msec, not "at least a full second" (source: Wiki).

Your ping is not only dependant on the geographic/network distance between client and server. The quality of the routing is very important.

A standard reaction time is around 1 sec
A standard reaction time for something expected to happen is most likely around 0.5 sec

By reaction time I mean this full process :

Enemy appears on your screen
You see enemy
you "think" about shooting him
you press left lick to shoot

Anyway all experimented gamers use to agree that a ping below 150-200 is perfectly playable without any noticable handicap. As I mentionned the low ping fashion is just another marketing strategy used by some manufaturers and some GSP who try to trick customers.
If you play on a smooth server I can guarantee you that you will not be able to honestly notice a 50ms latency difference.
If you hide your ping im sure you will not be able to estimate it with such an acuacy.
Not to mention game engine prediction balance pings to even the game.

*About my lowpings exemple I was of course making referene to Euro loated servers : you cant guarantee ppl a low ping thats why I think advertising about low pings is just a rip off. you got no control over it, how can you "sell it".

And about routes well routes = network distances so its directly linked to locations. of course if you use some retarded route you will get a bigger distance but thats still about distance

chill out, you are just betraying yourself showing how immature you are, who would now rent a server from a child...
I just said exelservers seem to be dead cuz when I go to their website I get a 404 error, thats a fact, not some kind of personal opinion about the company... So RELAX and take a deep breath.

About supported games you are making fake accusations, we play the games we support, been personaly playing sof2 for 6 years now, started hosting servers on sof2 ONLY in the old times. I bet you dont know me or my support so your probably not able to give any judgement about our capabilities. I got 6 years of experience in sof2 servers hosting so be so kind to not make supositions about something you have no clue about, I dont know you so I will never say a word about your capabilities, not without a proof or something to base me on.
About sof2 demo servers we got a test server, we also host the sof2 ladder server and we got our customers servers of course there too.
So really dude chill out, it was nothing personal, just mentionned the excelservers WEBSITE is dead (offline) so it maks me thing the ompany itself may be dead too. If not then tell me how can you manage a GSP without a website? (if your managing exelservers ofc)

Your unconscious mind handles the aim towards an enemy when you are an experienced player, which is part of the reason why the response time is so low. You don't have to "think" about shooting him. Plus, when you are expecting an event will happen you will respond even quicker. This is quite different from driving your car and having to hit the brakes (unexpected).

The funny thing is that I have personally noticed the difference between 10 and 50 msec. I've played on the same server (wired, with the same laptop) on the other side of my country (50 msec) and close to the server (10 msec) and the difference was amazing (no packet loss registered). You notice the difference even better when playing on the same network as the server (~0 msec). The prediction tries to smoothen the connection but does not make the difference unnoticeable. However I agree with Xillax that the lack of packetloss is much more important than a slight increase in ping.

I brought up routing importance because problems can occur with some ISP's and data can be sent indirectly (e.g. from NL via USA to Scandinavia). Admittedly this only happens "if you use some retarded route".

Indeed but I assume if you played with a PC and not a laptop you wouldnt have noticed such a difference.
Ive been moving to 8 different locations in those last 6 years (in france and in spain). when I was in france I had same internet provider and aproximatively same connection (almost same db loss) but my ping was 50 at first home and 90 at second home and I can guarantee you I was feeling better playing with a 90ms ping cuz my distance to the DSLAM was a lil lower so my db attenuation was a lil lower even if my ping was higher due to a bigger geographic distance (was using exactly same hardware ofc).
I got a laptop too and when Im playing on it its true that ping differences are more noticeable, probably due to the fact a laptop is not originally dedicated to gaming so any weakness gets increased.

And about the time of reaction well thats what i meant when you expect something to happen or not, studies showed that expecting an event to happen you can reduce your time of reaction by 0,15 sec = 150 ms which means focusing on the game gives u a ways bigger advantage than a slightly lower ping partially compensated by the game engine.

if you ask me, any ping up to 150 is perfectly playable as far as your connection and server's one is smooth and not losing packets as you mentionned. Its true that on newest games, ping differences are even more lowered as game engines prediction is better but still I have played sof2 with a 150 ping when I was in spain but connection was fine (cable internet) and it did not affect my gaming nor my "skills".

There are a few ways to make your connection better quality, I know some for french ppl (removing condensators from phone plugs) but you may find other on google, and this will give you a better gaming than a lil lower ping.

A last but not least point is that for a real good and fair game, pings have to be even, if you play on some dutch servers not to mention, dutch players will have 10 ping when french, polish, english, etc will get up to 100. Not big deal if you ask me but I noticed that on some "known hosts" if you are not dutch playing vs dutch you see them "lagging" and you can hardly kill them. I really dotn know where it comes from cuz Ive been playing on french servers with a 70 ping vs french with 10 ping and I didnt feel that disadvantage at all, only happened on dutch servers vs dutch and german players.

ExcelServers is most likely dead as the website is always down.

That website is never down except once when I(the host) was upgrading my server and had some DNS problems.

I mean, I'm thinking to myself right now, perhaps you are a little dumb, since http://www.excelservers.org/ has not been offline for even 1 second for the last 2 months.

Perhaps you wonder why he doesn't host it himself like you do..
That's simple: to keep all resources for the gameservers & ftp.

Wow! What can I say?!??! AWESOME!
NOT, almost every GSP has TCAdmin now, and tbfh it sucks for how much they charge.

Our automate (robot installling servers on machines) is set to stop installing game servers as soon as the CPU reaches 50% usage in peak hours : this way we prevent any lag possibility by keeping a comfortable marge of 50% CPU.

50% cpu is still HUGE for a GSP server tbh..
A good server on a HIGH load will only be like 10%, more than that and people feel the lag anyway(at least that's how it was when my friend had a company)

Well when i got to http://www.excelservers.org/ I get a 404 error, website not available, I could access it last month but when i tried few days back couldnt anymore.

TCAdmin has to be configured properly to be handy and useful, if you use default config ofc it "sucks". And there are BIG differences between 2 TCA Cpanels depending on how they were configured by their respective owners.

50% free CPU in full charge means that the slots amount could be doubled without making any server lag so its pretty much low CPU usage. Im sry but I dont host only sof2 servers (they use almost no cpu compared to CSS tick 100 with mods).
Your friend may have been using AMD or some cheap hardware cuz you wil ldefinitely feel no lag when using only half of an intel Quad core CPU ressources. Feel free to come on roxservers and play at weekends between 8pm and 11pm, thats our peak hours lately and I can tell you that you wont feel any lag. Since we are using this hardware we have never been reported any lag (been using for 5 months now).
We also monitor our servers manually in addition to TCA monitoring and never noticed any lag spike so far.

I know some ppl may have "ideas" about servers but if you dotn got a true and solid experience you can hardly make suppositions based on what a friend said, not to mention you cant compare machines with different hardware, configured by different persons and located in different datacenters.

I never tried an excelserver cuz I never saw any so I will never give my opinion about their game servers. It may be a good company, well good for them, I really have no problem with competition as the market is wide, Im helping myself a GSP sometimes to fix his issues. All what I care about is giving the best service I can for a reasonable price in a legal and licenced way. There are "tips" im ok to share wit h "competitors" without any problem, but I just hate companies who advertise about fake stuffs lying to customers hoping they got not enough knowledge to realize they are being abused. That was the original point of my post about lags and my intention wasnt to hurt excel servers, I just said that their website returned me a 404 error so I thought the company was closed, period.

PD : I host my website myself but on a different machine than game servers actually. And anyway a website use almost no ressources so hosting it to game servers is not a problem in any case as far as you dont overload your machines.
And a GSP not hosting its own website is kinda paradoxal lol. Providing hosting services but not hosting its own services huh? I assume and I hope you are wrong and excelservers host their own website lol, would be freaky for their customers if their provider dotn trust in its own services.

dust learn the difference between 403 and 404?

Since the release of Soldier Of Fortune II in May, 2002. There hasn't been an anti-cheat available for version 1.00. This caused players to whine and ban people during clan wars for hacks. Reason most likely to be banned for is "2know", whatever the fuck that means. In early 2009, rumors started appearing around the SOF2 1.00 community that somebody was developing an anti-cheat. Everyone thought this was a great idea, seeing as the game had been out since the 17th century and nobody gave a fuck about it. All of the 16 players left on SOF2 1.00 cheered and supported the Hitler like figure who was developing this anti-cheat. When the anti-cheat was finally released, it was the biggest fucking failure in the history of video gaming. It was so humiliating that Michael Jackson died a few weeks later. The name of this anti-cheat was called "Mousetrap". It had been coded by some four eyed geek virgin who couldn't even code a fucking keygen.

Forbidden means you aren't allowed there.

The fact is:
You fake ordered about 20 servers on the page to annoy the owners of excelservers.org around 1 month ago, so we banned your IP from visiting excelservers.org

Dust you are retarded.
Excelservers only offers GAME hosting, thus only need to provide GAME SERVERS, and thus don't need their own webserver, since they don't offer web hosting.

--

People aren't dumb dust, they can see you are trying to deface the good excelservers name by talking shit about them, most users here would testify that excelservers are good servers, whereas most have never even played on a roxservers server.

The only reason people even know you if that shit you call a league.

I got 403 AND 404 error, just read better the screenshot.

And are you kidding me about orders???
Never ordered anything at excel servers so chill out. I checked prices through the order form once but I never ever submitted it. Anyway passing 20 orders would be totally insane and obviously fake orders as I assume a GSP providing 2 games doesnt get 20 new customers in a month + If the order process dont go til payment its not supposed to be submitted to the company.

So please stop those ridiculous accusations, maybe the javascript is screwed and it counted my queries as orders but I definitely NEVER passed an order thats just makes no sense, why would i do so?

GSP = Game Server Provider

People aren't dumb dust, they can see you are trying to deface the good excelservers name by talking shit about them, most users here would testify that excelservers are good servers, whereas most have never even played on a roxservers server.

The only reason people even know you if that shit you call a league.

dude reallly CHILL OUT, im not a kid, where did I say anything wrong about excelservers? just said that I had no access to website so I thought the company was closed, its not well good and end of the story.
I dont make my $ on sof2 anyway, thats the game I started on, I like it, still play it sometimes but if I wanted to "deface" another GSP that wouldnt be 1 providing 2 games. ANd as I said the market is wide and I dont consider excelservers are competitors, they are just doing their job and FINE if their customers are happy.

ABout the league I host it for a single reason : there was a demand about it and Clanbase couldnt answer it as sof2 demo and 1.00 have no "official" anticheat software. If you dont like it just dont join it but dont get a bitch behaviour.

Are you actually owning shares in excelservers to feel agressed?

dude, the orders were sent your ip and you need to go through 3 pages per time:
configure
personal information
conformation

then you click Buy or w.e then it sends emails, and you did it 20 times, so the owner of excel got 20 email, thus he banned your IP.

I remember him coming to me on msn asking who it was and how to ban, and I also remember searching your IP here on demobase and only your account showing up.

The javascript only calculates prices, doesn't do any placing orders.

The 404 is just a custom error document error, thus it reverts to using default because excel haven't made their own custom ones.

Reseted my proxy parameters and I can now access the excel website.

Yes I checked their prices through order form but never went to payment cuz ofc didnt want to purchase, just was interested in pricing and check if they had instant setup.

But excelservers order form is actually in javascript (which is unsecure if you got automated setup but I dont think they got so not such a big deal) and javascript is a client side script which means if you are blocking javascripts or using security measures with your web browser then you will not be able to order. And I assume thats what happened, I couldnt go further so I probably pressed a button multiple times but never could get it working. Altho seems on server side the emails were sent, just my guess.

Thats why I host my own website : full control over it. Not to mention that even if not hosting it php is a ways better solution.

About banning, what a good job, you just banned the most used french proxy IP which means you banned something like 500,000 potential visitors if not more. Cuz when I stop using the proxy I can reach the page without any problem. I just hope excelservers doesnt have any french client.
