Dust, can you Sponsor us (eGang) a Gameserver?

Sorry buddy but I run this company as a job and not as a hobby, I gota pay my bills and Servers have a cost, thats why I cant make them free. Some companies sponsor some high ranked clans in famous leagues but if you talk about a sof2 demo server I regret to inform you that you will not be able to find a sponsor (basically some1 paying for you).
Altho we got a referral program, its atm managed by a french/spanish person so the documentation is only in french and spanish but if you know some1 who can translate it for you, just get it from http://www.roxservers.com

principle is pretty much simple : you get a discount on your server invoice every time you refer a enw customer, that discount is 50% of the amount paid by the person you refered. So if you refer some1 who rents a 20€ server for 3 months you will get half of 20*3 = 30€discount on your own invoice. Which can makes it free so you dont have to pay anything if you refer enough customers.

A standard reaction time is around 1 sec
A standard reaction time for something expected to happen is most likely around 0.5 sec

By reaction time I mean this full process :

Enemy appears on your screen
You see enemy
you "think" about shooting him
you press left lick to shoot

Anyway all experimented gamers use to agree that a ping below 150-200 is perfectly playable without any noticable handicap. As I mentionned the low ping fashion is just another marketing strategy used by some manufaturers and some GSP who try to trick customers.
If you play on a smooth server I can guarantee you that you will not be able to honestly notice a 50ms latency difference.
If you hide your ping im sure you will not be able to estimate it with such an acuacy.
Not to mention game engine prediction balance pings to even the game.



*About my lowpings exemple I was of course making referene to Euro loated servers : you cant guarantee ppl a low ping thats why I think advertising about low pings is just a rip off. you got no control over it, how can you "sell it".

And about routes well routes = network distances so its directly linked to locations. of course if you use some retarded route you will get a bigger distance but thats still about distance

Seems you are the 12 years old one. You know you can express your opinion without making use of insults and as far as I know I didnt agress you personaly. I can perfectly play with a 150 ping on sof2 and even CS or CSS or CoD4 as far as server's connection is stable and not losing packets (ofc my own connection is stable too).
Now ppl who cant handle playing with a 150 ping and blame ping for not making a kill are just (still in my opinion) just excuses makers.

lets make it concrete :
If you got a 150 latency it means a packet takes 75 milliseconds to go to server and 75 milliseconds to come back to you.
Lets imagine you play against sum1 who got 40 ping (20ms to go and 20 to come back).
Your info takes 75ms to go to server then 20 ms to go to enemy so basically enemy "see you" in 95ms whereas you "see him" in 150.
150 - 95 = 55ms = 0,055 second.
Ofc I simplified it a lot but thats aproximatively how it works, not to mention that game engine evens it too.

So a ping of 150 is perfectly playable with the condition of a good network conditions.
As I already said Ive been living in many different places these last years, played with same hardware and aproximatively same quality of connection but with ways different pings with differences of 90+ between the lowest and highest and It didnt affect my gaming in any noticeable way. Thats why I always smile when I see ppl doing crazy stuffs like buying special fancy Gfx card to get a minus 5ms on their ping. useless, pathetic and rip off.

yes there are some cards designed to lower your ping and some idiots to buy them. I didnt say "better" card, I said "special"

And your 300000% wrong. the fact is I got good quality of connection so it doesnt bother me playing with pings of 100 or 150 on foreign servers. I start feeling disadvantaged between 150 and 200 but 150 is still fairly playable if you hardware and connection are good enough.
Again ping is latency time and compensated by game engine so as far as you dont lag its fine.


For ppl who really wana lower their ping they just have to ask their internet provider to disable interleave. Some ppl may even be able to do that themselves if they got an access to that function in their client area.

interleaving is only an issue on adsl/dsl using copper wires(phone lines).

us cool guys with fibre optic are too cool for interleaving.

+ interleaving does more good than bad.. and most providers don't let you disable it, only turn it to a lower frequency.

v1servers use 5 servers on 1 computer thats why they lag as that guy said on a single machine causes lag

The amount of Ram and CPU are not important for SoF2 because the Q3 engine is not very demanding. It's more important whether or not these servers are overloaded (as in running too many gameservers on a single machine which causes lag

well i tried to measure my reaction time on ultra good shot I mean I spot a guy and just aim him and hit, it took about 150ms for me, they were not across the screen shots but sometimes I when I know where he might be I can lock in about 150ms and i'm medskilled player, so reaction time of average soffer could be about that on ultra-fast/lucky mouse flicks.
average reaction prolly takes more time I guess like double for me ;d but still anything that hinders it may be a disadvantage.
