its kinda logical that you cant prove some of the stuff youre saying joey,

you cant prove anything about intelligence directly... Its an abstract concept, impossible to measure objectively. Therefore, operationalised variables have to be used (like an IQ test). They give meaningful and standardised data and their results come closest to equalling intelligence.

Likewise to prove that religious people have lower IQ's.. You would have to design an experiment with sample size: the entire world. The guy you quoted in your article based his hypothesis on a sample size of 7000 people (which is a huge amount for an investigation). So even though it's not mathematical proof, scientists generally accept it as statistically significant data.

Its not surprising either. Based on my experience, nearly all religious people who ive been in contact with (whether on demobase or somewhere else) are extremely persisten in their religious delusions. Once they're there, it seems they're pretty hard to get out. Usually they ignore any opportunity to think for themselves and accept anything that's irrational, as long as it somehow supports the idea that God exists.

Dunno, they remind me of thoughtless cows standing in a meadow just eating grass, happily contented with anything that's given to them. Don't have a problem with it, they're happy but it gets annoying when they try to share some of their beliefs with us humans. (Based on my experience, don't go searching for 1000 variables that are possible causes of this, doctor)

Aye 7000 is a huge number, but it makes me wonder about the ethnic, cultural backgrounds etc of these 7000 people.

To summarize my opinion:

I believe there is a correlation between IQ and religion, however I do not think that you can judge religion and such solely based on a person's IQ.

The reason I responded (questioning most of what Sylt posted lateron because of his 'low IQ Ethiopian example') was mostly to try and get people to understand that it isn't all that black and white as most seem to be thinking it is. Try to be open-minded, think about the discussion from more than your own perspective and try to learn something while you're at it.

Examples and/or remarks such as people with low IQ can't think for themselves or people with a low IQ don't know any better are fairly useless unless proven (nothing personal, it just is).

Do note that I'm not telling you to do research for yourself or that if a researcher hasn't tested the hypothesis on the entire world, the research is automatically invalid. On the contrary, I'm just telling you to think for yourself. It isn't a bad thing to question research as long as you can come up with valid arguments on why the research is invalid, untrustworthy or otherwise valid etc.
This is, in my opinion, the key to an interesting and educational discussion as people usually refrain from sprouting total nonsense and actually try to convince the other "participants" with valid arguments while not randomly discarding other people's arguments / opinions.

Exactomundo, religion has nothing to do with intelligence, i dont know why you people keep arguing about that ;s

Wether they were brought up that way, seen it themselve, experienced it themselve in one way or another, globally its comes down to faith.
All you sceptics and what not can be mad about it and say all kind of shit, end of the day, you can never take it away
But im glad it pisses you off snugg, shows to me your simple minded and cant handle people around you lol.

SO, what about time travel right guys? how come no one from the future came to our time, cause if time travel exists in the future, wouldnt there be some guy from like 40000 years from now in the midst of us? if we didnt destroy ourselves by then ;(

I take it you believe in a certain God. Tell me, which one did you choose to believe and have faith in?
and what exactly do you believe his abilities are? You think your life is predestined by him (Him, sorry)?

So even though it's not mathematical proof, scientists generally accept it as statistically significant data.

sample size is big, but how you select the sample is another thing I if remember right it's conducted on 7000 of US youth, not quite representative of the whole world population

you cant prove anything about intelligence directly... Its an abstract concept, impossible to measure objectively. Therefore, operationalised variables have to be used (like an IQ test). They give meaningful and standardised data and their results come closest to equalling intelligence.

that's more of personal belief than objective view, many scientists reject IQ tests as being meaningful for example those who support theory of multiple intelligences.

My experience is that there's lots of atheists who think of themselves as of very intelligent people then make tons of generalizations, show ignorance and lack of knowledge and I'm not talking about you. It's like not believing in God makes them smarter and they are always so sarcastic in conversation with religious people while they have very little to say and don't seem very bright either. So I guess it depends on personal experience too.

anyway someone propose a new topic IQ and religion is kinda drained.

haha sure if you tell me why, cause as i see it you havent proven a single valid point to me why i should take you serious, that by being on the easy side of the discussion, and you keep babbling about this IQ chart you made up to be globally true in your mind, but hey maybe you could blame it on your mongolian heritage and get away with it. anyway like joey said, this will never end so my final post here

I think it's valid to say that 3 factors are closely related here: wealth, intelligence and religion. It doesn't need to be proven that physically poor people (70%? of the globe) are most likely to have lower education and are faster to take religion for granted just because it gives them hope.
Not generalising, just trying to figure out the statistics shown by snugg.

well, im just trying to understand your religious beliefs and place them in a context, seems more valuable than where your current arguments are going (never said the IQ "chart" is globally true, and as far as the mongolian heritage goes... Very nice counter-argument, but kind of conflicts with the moral, religious values youre supposed to have, being religious and all that, no ?)
