Do you believe it or not and why? Why people believe in God? Why don't they?

Ah sweet topic.
Anyways, i believe that the subject is just way too personal. Theres no real debating on why you do or do not believe in god, as most people seem to be quite easily offended when you question their beliefs.

Though i wouldn't be able to explain why exactly i don't believe in god, i just don't. It's not just god though, i don't believe in anything supernatural.

I'll leave the 'why do people believe in god' question to people who actually do believe in god. i'm pretty sure theres a few here

I'm pondering the thought that God and supernatural might be just a result of our high intelligence and some

I don't think it's intelligence per se, but our high consciousness. In intelligence, we don't differ that much from some species. In our consciousness, we do though.
Linguistics play a great role aswell in this one.

I do agree with the second part though, i feel like people can't accept the fact that we might not put on this world for a reason, but it just happens to be this way.
I also believe people still believe in god because they feel like it takes a way some insecurities about things that we don't know anything about and aren't likely to know anything about soon, like life or death for that part.

This also raises the question: Why do people feel such a need classify certain beliefs into religions. To me, that is even stranger than the need to belief in a god or anything supernatural for that matter.

I have to disagree with you.
You can't categorize what you're talking about as everyone gains it from other situations and circumstances.

As for what Niels said, I too find it much more interesting why people classify certain beliefs into religions or feel the need to do so.

I also agree with Doc partly. I think a lot of people feel the need to fill the gaps of missing knowledge with the concept called 'God'.
In the end I believe that it is whatever you believe in that inevitably becomes your truth or your source of strength.

How excactly do you find help in God ? I'd think that the strength you get from God is merely strength you get from yourself, yet because of the illusion of God you believe that it isn't.

I'm pretty sure that you got banned because of HOW you explained it and not about what you were trying to say.

Unless you can't explain it in proper words and without offending someone. if that's the case, well yeah than it's better you stay out of this.

i do believe in other things like faith though but not in some god or religion.

You say he's right and he might be, yet the beauty of it is you can't claim to know what you can't know. It's not a matter of knowing, but it's a matter of believing


I don't believe we have religion to explain what people do not know, i believe religion was always designed to 'tell people how to live', control them in a way.
I mean, what better way to make people obey is fear, and what is more fearsome than living in eternal agony, right ?

And on the second part, even though i probably know the answer, you say one god but what about polytheistism ?

almost every person would like to be famous, that's reasonable aight? i mean, look at people nowadays what they figure out to get popular. simple as that, this so called prophet Jesus came and talked shitload of crap and got famous. Just like people nowadays. now how come this doesn't seem logical?

don't believe in god, never have and never will, it's just a illusion, it's nothing. it's for weak people

ahhh..just yesterday I read a christian post on IMDB forums asking if certain movie has some female nudity in it, cause they "can't" watch it. it's funny cause it seems to be ok when they READ about it..haha. because obviously jesus predicted that in 2k years we will be watching female nudity on TV and it will be forbidden




other than that, god excists for those who believe in it...personally for myself? no.

That's a weird way to put it. You are claiming that Jesus himself, if he would have existed, was deliberatly lying just to get popular, even though he got lynched basically. That's seems strange to me, since the urge to become famous wasn't as big as it is nowadays.

It doesn't seem logical at all to me. You know you are talking about a man claimed to be able to turn water into wine and all.
