Why do people believe a 'God' does exist and how does it affect them?
Do you necessarily need to read the Bible to be a good Christian?
Could it not be possible that believing in a greater being, a greater purpose itself is enough for a person to live on?
And if you lol even though "you're thinking outside the box" you've totally missed the point.

[just an example] you do realize that most(probably not good word, but let it slide) of the history you study is also based on historic writings and paintings(just like bible, it was based on you-know-what?
just for example, take "Henriku Liivimaa kroonika", which is written by german priest Henrik. in a nutshell, it tells a story about crusaders invading Estonia(&Livonia overall) to force their belief on us. there's no proof of that story actually being true, but we take it as it is. dont see you complaining about it neither.
@scat
I am atheist. where the hell do you take idea that I am religious? reading a book only doesn't make you religious.

yea except we all know that the crusades DID happen and it isn't a stretch to imagine christians forcing their beliefs on people and thinkin they're superior. LOLthen don't say slaves, say followers. or believers. anything else but slaves.

and to address joey's questions
Why do people believe a 'God' does exist and how does it affect them? they believe it because they want to be able to explain shit they wish they could understand cuz they're scared. its just a weakness.
Do you necessarily need to read the Bible to be a good Christian? well yea cuz its like the little propaganda how-to book for christians otherwise they wouldnt follow it the same way
Could it not be possible that believing in a greater being, a greater purpose itself is enough for a person to live on? no. you live on because there are people you love or something you care about. if you have to follow something intangible like this then you're misguided.
And if you lol even though "you're thinking outside the box" you've totally missed the point - well im sorry im not close-minded like religious people who wont entertain any adverse thoughts. i guess outside the box thinking is ahead of the curve which clearly doesn't sync up with religion. youre right.

Christians believe in god why? Because they also read about it, were taught about it, etc.
there's no 100% proof that either of those happened.
after all, it couldve been a guy on mind alterin substances talking bullshit. we will never know. NEVER. arrogant to ask for proof of something that's near impossible to gather, if you wanna discuss this topic, let's talk about it from different angle, not lookin for 100% solid proof.

HOWEVER i realize i take it too far generally but i do have experience with religion i do know where im coming from this sten. i have done international study abroads, namely in costa rica where i lived with a poor ghetto family and as you know latinos are extremely catholic. I lived with their hardships and so on and they believe in god very strongly and it gives them strength. lol for cryin out loud before i went to the university my host mother would do the holy cross on me and say "que dios le protege" (may god protect you).
i have actually seen how religion can be a good thing but in my experience i have seen more examples of it being a bad thing, yes ofc im biased we all are, but at least i can see both sides. its just that personally i have seen more harm come from it then good.

Skyline, it's nice of you to reopen this topic. but if you don't know how to have a proper discussion, without cursing or being an ass would you please stop?
I still like this subject if people would actually go back to the discussion part instead of going all THIS IS MY OPINION I STAND BY IT AND YOU CANT CHANGE IT.
Please
Ok the first part is true. We are afraid of the unknown and try to find solutions. Some will try to rationally, some will try to use the supernatural as an explanation. That's not religion though, imo.very true
epicly true
ok niels i will try. if i dont reply its cuz i got banned again. god is an illusion that people use in order to try to explain things they don't understand it is really clear that by human nature people fear and/or avoid the unknown and unfamiliar. its really interesting to see some fuckin retard going "dinosaurs never existed, the world was created a thousand years ago" oh gee i guess if you dont look at things like science and research which are actual things that have evolved as we discover more as opposed to the idea of some supernatural force which cannot be proven and is disproven time and again then i guess theres not much more for us to say. religion is the cause for lots of violence, arrogance regarding race while when you stop and think it's pathetic. people just want to be able to say "this happened because god wanted it to happen" well say that if it makes you feel better, it just happened because it did, life can suck, get over it and stop being weak.
People are entitled to there opinion and are not retards just because they believe in God. Ok the dinosaur thing is really stupid but still they're not a 'fucking retard' because of that.
Science can never provide 100% evidence. Everything is based on opinion and interpretation, even in science. Something may seem clear as day but still be wrong once we discover something new.
Now i'm not talking about simple things like WATER = H2O when i say that, i mean complex theories like religion for example. Science can not provice us with an answer for every question.
I'm also certain that even without religion, although it might be less, there would still be a lot of violence.
And for the last part, no man is without weakness.
Agreed, try to see 'God' different from 'Christianity' or any religion per seWhat about the people who believe in a being namely "God" purely because it gives them strength?
You seem to think that you're better than christians, or that you atleast know better while you saying 'god doesn't exist' is a belief also. That's called hypocrisy, scatbut you are slaves. slaves to your crazy ideals
and its a great thing that skyline hasnt read the bible good for him. I tried to read the bible and it was hilarious. genesis for example made me laugh out loud. too bad christians think they're better than everyone and don't follow half the shit they preach. ok i should stop now lol
Tell me. Is it weak to not understand something. is it weak to search for an explanation? I'm 100% that you search for explanations as well, yet to you that's no weakness because you search for answers in a different way, science perhaps. Yet, science is also not 100% right.yea except we all know that the crusades DID happen and it isn't a stretch to imagine christians forcing their beliefs on people and thinkin they're superior. LOL
and to address joey's questions
Why do people believe a 'God' does exist and how does it affect them? they believe it because they want to be able to explain shit they wish they could understand cuz they're scared. its just a weakness.

You don't need to read the bible to be a good christian. Being a good christian is essentially being a 'good person'. You don't have to read the bible to be a good person, no ?
Some people do seem to need god to get enough strength to live on. Just having loved ones around you isn't enough. Now i don't know your personal situation, but even though you have persons that love you around you, might not always help nor be a good thing. Just because some people get strength from God, others from friends or music or what not.
You're close-minded. You're saying everyone who beliefs in a god is weak, wrong and misguided. You're not giving it any chance.
Now tell me, if one of your friends came up to you and told you that God is the only reason he did not commit suicide yet, even though he has his family and close friends around him. Would you call him weak ?
Oh and i ask of you to use proper language when replying, if you're going to.
Thanks
PS: This turned out to be quite long LOL
